Azirah Binte Jamal

Idiosyncratic

Foam, Spray paint, cable tie, cork
Dimensions variable, 2019

In Azirah’s practice, her interest has always been in the art form of taxidermy. With that in mind, she started off by collecting and preserving dead organic forms like insects, arachnids, etc. From this perspective, she perceives her collections to be a reminder and symbol of memento mori.

The idea of distortion of her tangible collections has aroused her curiosity to integrate and experiment with different synthetic mediums into assemblages. Azirah renders her creations with the intention to question what is “normal” in life.
