These paintings stem from a few photographs taken during my initial travelogue trip to Chengdu, China in 2011. The photographs range from momentary snippets in nature, museum artifacts and everyday situations found in the city that mostly includes a particular arrangement of objects. The works correspond to my current interests in tracing specific thresholds of light in photographs and using various forms of paint application in order to reconcile with the memory and the event. The painting surface acts as a membrane that records remembrance and agency in the present moment - the act of painting itself.
