Points of Reference (2024)

24 silicone finger casts, found tree branches, nylon threads, cable wire

120 x 145 x 145 cm

Points of Reference is a hanging mobile sculpture comprising tree branches fitted with synthetic fingers at the ends. Through careful arrangement and manipulation of weight and balance, the suspended piece gently oscillates within its environment, creating a constantly evolving structure.
Extending outwards in multiple directions at once, the skeletal-like composition uncannily simulates the act of pointing around—a universal human gesture symbolising guidance, exploration, and curiosity. These sentiments aptly embody the artistic process and reflect the expansive nature of the Winston Oh Travelogue Award, wherein the fingers highlight the 24 countries explored by past recipients through its support, transforming the sculpture into a metaphorical map of discovery for one’s contemplation.
