Bergegas Terlalu Cepat (transl. Rushing too Quickly) is a series of graphite drawings that seeks to delay the act of forgetting. It is grounded in the vivid memory of the communal domestic tasks done within my late grandmother’s household–now left vacant. Over the final two visits, I desperately searched for an heirloom to hold onto and left her house with only photographs as family keepsake— portable and light. Parting from a safe haven happened too quickly. To grieve is a luxurious thing.

Muhammad Mustaghfir is an artist based in Singapore whose works engage with tactility through soft sculpture, drawings and performance. In his practice, he explores intimacy through the body in relation to clothing and its performativity. He also responds to gendered expectations through reimaginings of domestic and everyday objects. In doing so, he draws meaning from the simplicity of his everyday encounters, surfacing the intersections of bodily duties and bodily desires.
