Upon an exhumation, roots of plants were found entwined in a rather distinctive network, a peculiar phenomenon. In this recent exploration, Rusydan imagines a magical act of collaboration between roots and bio-organism(s) that occur beneath ground. What is unveiled is a tapestry, containing vestiges of identity, undergoing a process of homogenisation with the earth.

Rusydan Norr employs elements of nature found in urban environments as an expressive photographic medium. Most notably in his practice, through a process of manipulating light received by a plant’s chlorophyll, he produces ephemeral images that stimulate a sense of biophilia, captivation and wonder. Echoing through his works is a play on imperceptibility. Subtleties embedded within the typical or seemingly mundane elements of nature encountered in neighbourhoods, illuminating overlooked perspectives or processes within ecology and culture. Working closely with plants, he has been interested in the tensions between preservation and transience of nature across urban landscapes.
